Every creative has a moment when they are stuck and need new inspiration. Sometimes we have many! Combining ideas is a useful way to overcome creative blocks and to discover useful new pathways. Artificial intelligence (AI) can be an excellent tool for coming up with new ideas.

This painting was inspired by the path of Rose de Freycinet across the coast of Tasmania and her deep curiosity into this new terrain. The creative process for this piece included using an AI generative adversarial network uploaded with the artist's aerial landscape paintings of Freycinet National Park and maps of the route of her ship, the Uranie. Using a human-machine collaboration process, the final piece was hand-painted in oil on canvas.

As professional creatives we have to keep our minds trained to see things differently, all the time. It’s not just artists, interior designers, architects, and fashion designers that need to be creative. We all need to have creativity in our lives in one way or another.

But did you know that creativity is learnable?

Painting in the studio is wonderful, however to get a real sense of the natural light, artists tend to paint outdoors. The Impressionists were particularly fond of taking their easels out on location. Early this year, I put my paints, brushes, mediums, and all the paraphernalia an artist uses into the back of my truck, along with a pre-stretched canvas to work on, and headed off to the island.

Our Melbourne based client had seen a previous commission for a client in Ashgrove and wanted something similar for her home. She had been in lock-down and was taking the time to style her inner city home. She sent an email to commission the piece.

Artist Sarah Daly on how she has developed her Pointillist Cloud series. Inspired by the French Impressionists early in her painting career, she has developed a series that makes the viewer feel like they are in the midst of a shimmering sky.
